Fastener Dimensions
Every fastener dimensions calculator on CalcEngines — each with its formula, a worked example, the standard it follows and the assumptions it makes.

- Counterbore and Countersink CalculatorCounterbore diameter and depth for a socket head, countersink top diameter and depth for a flat head, the material left under either, and the sheet-thickness limit that actually binds — which on thin sheet is the minimum land in millimetres, not any percentage. The 82°/90° fork is worked out exactly, both ways round, with each standard's angle recovered from its own published head heights.
- Dowel Pin and Hole CalculatorThe actual interference or clearance range from the pin's band and the hole's, with the contact pressure, the insertion force and the hoop stress in the boss — every ISO 286 deviation derived from the IT grades rather than copied, and checked against the printed ISO 8734 pin limits. Plus the reason two round pins do not locate a plate and the diamond pin does.
- Hex Head Bolt Dimensions CalculatorAcross flats, across corners, head height, washer face, thread length and the plain shank left under it, for ISO 4014 and ISO 4017, for the pre-1982 DIN 931 and 933 across-flats that four sizes still carry, and for ASME B18.2.1 inch hex and heavy hex. The thread length is computed from the standard's own three-band rule rather than looked up, and the across-corners minimum from a relation checked here against 26 published values: exactly 1.13 × s min, not the geometric 1.1547.
- Hex Nut Dimensions CalculatorAcross flats, across corners, thickness and bearing-face diameter for ISO 4032 style 1, ISO 4033 style 2, ISO 4035 thin, the legacy DIN 934, DIN 935 castle nuts and both nylon-insert forms — with the ISO 898-2 style each height qualifies as, computed from the standard's own 0.45 D / 0.80 D / 0.90 D boundaries, and the contact pressure the bearing face puts on the member. DIN 934 turns out to be under the style 1 floor at every size from M5 up except M12.
- Metric to Imperial Fastener Cross-Reference CalculatorThe closest thread in the other system, with the diameter and the pitch differences both printed and the engagement depth at which the two forms walk apart — because nothing here is equivalent to anything, and the near misses are the dangerous ones.
- Retaining Ring Groove CalculatorGroove diameter, width, depth and the ring's radial cling for DIN 471 external and DIN 472 internal rings, with BOTH thrust limits — the ring's own shear and the groove material's yield — computed at either maker's safety factors, the governing one identified, and the corner radius on the retained part derating it. For DIN 471 geometry the groove almost always governs, which is not what most people expect.
- Set Screw Dimensions CalculatorPoint dimensions for all four ISO socket set screws — cup (4029), cone (4027), flat (4026) and dog (4028) — with an axial holding power and the torque it will hold on your shaft, the point-type and multiple-screw factors that change it, and the selection logic that actually decides which point you want. The holding power is a constant-pressure fit to a named maker's published inch table and the fit's residuals are printed rather than hidden.
- Torx and Drive Size CalculatorTorx, Phillips, Pozidriv, slotted and square side by side — with the ISO socket dimension and the driver point diameter kept apart, the external E series shown not to be the T series, and the drive size asked by head style because that is what decides it.
- Washer Dimensions CalculatorBore, rim, thickness and — the number that actually decides the choice — the bearing area of the annulus, for the small, normal and large series and for DIN 127 split lock washers. Computes the contact pressure that area puts on the clamped member, compares it with the member's bearing strength, and gives the outside diameter you would need if it is over. Also the sourced position on split lock washers, which is that they do not lock and their DIN standards were withdrawn.
