Gross pay for the period chosen below, before deductions.
40 is a common office week. 48 is the legal maximum for a week in India under the OSH Code, 2020, not a standard week.
Optional. 0 counts every week as worked. Used only for pay per hour actually worked.

From any pay period to an hourly rate

Annual pay = pay × periods in a year (1, 12, 52, 52 × days a week, or 52 × hours a week)
Hourly = annual pay ÷ (52 × hours a week); per hour worked = annual pay ÷ [hours a week × (52 − leave days ÷ days a week)]
52
weeks in a year (a year is 52 weeks and one or two days)
leave days
paid leave and public holidays you do not work but are paid for

Worked example

$12,00,000 a year, 40 hours over 5 days a week
Paid hours = 52 × 40 = 2,080
Hourly = 12,00,000 ÷ 2,080 = $576.92
Monthly = 12,00,000 ÷ 12 = $1,00,000; weekly = ÷ 52 = $23,077
Daily = 12,00,000 ÷ (52 × 5) = $4,615

Hourly pay on 12,00,000 a year, by working week

Working weekPaid hours a yearPer hour
40 hours, 5 days2,080$576.92
45 hours, 5 days2,340$512.82
48 hours, 6 days2,496$480.77
The same salary is worth less per hour the longer the week.

Which hours to divide by

An hourly rate is only as good as the hours behind it. The calculator turns whatever pay you enter into a yearly figure, then divides by 52 weeks of your working hours. On $12,00,000 a year and a 40-hour week that is 2,080 paid hours and about $576.92 an hour. On a six-day, 48-hour week the same salary is $480.77 an hour. In India, 48 hours is the most a week may run under the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, in force since 21 November 2025 — a ceiling, not a normal week, so enter the hours you actually work.

A salary also pays for days you do not work. If you take 20 days of paid leave and holidays on a five-day week, you work 48 weeks, or 1,920 hours, and the same salary comes to $625.00 per hour actually worked. That is the figure to compare with an hourly or freelance rate, which pays nothing for time off. Enter your leave to see it on the last line.

Two cautions. A month is not four weeks: a year has 52 weeks and 12 months, so a month averages 4.33 weeks, and multiplying a weekly wage by 4 understates it by about 8%. And employers use their own divisors for a day’s pay in leave encashment or deductions, such as 26 or 30 days a month; your contract or policy decides those, not this page. The figures are gross, before tax and deductions; a cost-to-company (CTC) figure also includes employer contributions such as provident fund, which you do not receive as pay. The EPF calculator and the gratuity calculator cover two of them. This is arithmetic on the figures you enter, not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly rate?

Divide by 52 weeks times your weekly hours. $12,00,000 a year on a 40-hour week is 12,00,000 ÷ 2,080 = $576.92 an hour.

Should I use 40 or 48 hours a week?

Use the hours you actually work. 48 hours is the legal weekly maximum in India under the OSH Code, 2020, not a standard; many offices work 40 to 45.

Why is my monthly pay not four times my weekly pay?

A month averages 52 ÷ 12 = 4.33 weeks, so monthly pay is weekly pay × 4.33, not × 4.

Does paid leave change my hourly rate?

Per paid hour, no. Per hour actually worked, yes: with 20 days of leave and holidays on a five-day, 40-hour week, $12,00,000 a year is $625.00 per hour worked.
