Golf Course Distance and Yardage Converter Yards to metres and back, for a scorecard printed in the other system. The factor is exact and definitional — a yard has been 0.9144 metres since 1959 — so this converter has no approximation in it anywhere, which is rarer on a golf page than it sounds. Golf Match Play Status and Dormie Whether a match is already decided, from the holes won, lost and played. The Rules of Golf settle it in one sentence — a player wins when the lead is greater than the holes remaining — and the equality case, where the lead exactly matches what is left, is the one golf gave its own word: dormie. Golf Penalty Strokes and Relief What a situation costs and which relief the Rules of Golf allow: one penalty stroke, the general penalty, or none at all. The combinations that catch people out are the ones where the option you want is not available — lateral relief from a yellow penalty area, or anything but stroke and distance for a lost ball. Golf Score to Par and Scoring Terms What a hole's score is called, in the Rules' own language and in the birds. The Rules of Golf say “one under fixed target score” and never say “birdie”: the nicknames come from somewhere else, two published histories of them disagree, and this page prints both rather than picking one. Golf Scoring Average and Strokes to Par Your strokes per round and how far above or below par that lands, from the totals you already have. A gross average, plainly: nothing here adjusts a score, caps a hole or produces a handicap, and the page says why it will not. Greens in Regulation and Putts Calculator Greens hit in regulation as a percentage, putts per hole and per round, and how often you got up and down from the greens you missed. Three conventions that no governing body defines — which this page states rather than attributing. Stableford Points Calculator Points for one hole, from the table the Rules of Golf actually print: nought for more than one over the fixed target score, then one a stroke up to six. The handicap strokes you receive on the hole come from you, because working them out is the one piece of arithmetic this site will not reproduce. The World Handicap System, Explained What a Handicap Index is, who issues it, why 113 is in every formula, and where to get your own Course Handicap. This page computes none of it, and the reason is a clause in the rulebook rather than a limitation of the arithmetic — which is set out below, quoted, so you can judge it.
