Modified Bishop Score Calculator
The Modified Bishop Score is the clinical gold standard for predicting the success of labor induction. It assesses cervical readiness based on Dilation, Effacement, Station, Consistency, and Position.
This calculator includes standard parameters plus clinical modifiers (such as pre-eclampsia or previous vaginal births) to provide a precise score and specific induction recommendations.

Score Breakdown
- Score ≤ 6 (Unfavorable): The cervix requires ripening. Agents like prostaglandins (Misoprostol) or mechanical methods (Foley bulb) are typically indicated before Pitocin.
- Score > 8 (Favorable): The cervix is ripe. Probability of successful vaginal delivery is high. Induction with Oxytocin or amniotomy is usually appropriate.
- Modifiers: Points are added/subtracted to account for maternal history, providing a more accurate prediction of labor duration.
How to Use
1
Assess Parameters
Tap the buttons corresponding to your vaginal exam findings (Dilation, Effacement, etc.).
2
Apply Modifiers
Check any relevant boxes in the “Clinical Modifiers” section (e.g., Pre-eclampsia).
3
Copy Result
Use the “Copy Findings” button to paste the formatted score and interpretation into the patient’s EMR.
Disclaimer: This tool is intended for use by healthcare professionals. Clinical judgment should always supersede calculator results. Factors like parity, previous C-sections, and membrane status also influence induction success.
