Blood Pressure & Risk Assessment
High blood pressure can be complex. Sometimes only the top number is high (Isolated Systolic Hypertension), which is common in older adults.
This advanced tool classifies your readings using ACC/AHA Guidelines, detects isolated patterns, and adjusts context based on your age (JNC 8 recommendations).

What is “Isolated” Hypertension?
Typically, systolic and diastolic rise together. However, sometimes only one is elevated.
- Isolated Systolic Hypertension (ISH): High top number (>130), normal bottom number (<80). Most common form in people over 65 due to stiffening arteries.
- Isolated Diastolic Hypertension (IDH): Normal top number (<130), high bottom number (>80). More common in younger adults.
Measurement Tips
1
Relax
Avoid caffeine or exercise 30 minutes before. Sit quietly for 5 minutes.
2
Position
Sit with back supported, feet flat on the floor. Keep arm at heart level.
3
Average It
Take 2-3 readings one minute apart and average them for accuracy.
Disclaimer: This tool uses ACC/AHA 2017 guidelines. A single reading is not a diagnosis. Diagnosis of hypertension requires multiple readings over time confirmed by a healthcare professional.
