Eosinophil Count Calculator

Eosinophils are white blood cells responsible for combating multicellular parasites and certain infections. They also control mechanisms associated with allergy and asthma.

Laboratory reports often provide the Eosinophil Percentage (%) from the differential. However, the clinical definition of Eosinophilia relies on the Absolute Eosinophil Count (AEC). A high percentage in a patient with a low total WBC count might result in a normal absolute count, whereas a normal percentage in a patient with leukocytosis could indicate significant eosinophilia. This calculator derives the Absolute Count from the Total WBC and Percentage.

Absolute Eosinophil Count

Clinical Context

Calculation Formula: Absolute Count = (Total WBC × Eosinophils %) / 100

Interpretation:
Normal: 50–500 cells/µL (0.05–0.5 × 10⁹/L)
Mild Eosinophilia: 500–1500 cells/µL
Moderate: 1500–5000 cells/µL
Severe (Hypereosinophilia): > 5000 cells/µL

How to Use This Calculator

Follow these steps to calculate the absolute count.

1

Enter Total WBC

Input the Total White Blood Cell count from the CBC (usually in 10⁹/L or K/µL).

2

Enter Percentage

Input the Eosinophil percentage from the differential.

3

Get Absolute Count

The calculator instantly provides the Absolute Eosinophil Count (AEC) in both cells/µL and SI units.
