In South Asian land measurement, terms like Bigha and Katha are historically inconsistent. Their standardized values change drastically between states and countries:

  • Pucca Bigha (Standard): Often defined as 3,025 square yards (approx 2,529 m²), widely used in Bihar, UP, and parts of Punjab.
  • Kucha Bigha: Usually one-third of a Pucca Bigha.
  • West Bengal Bigha: Approx 1,333 m².
